I'm really enjoying reading about your experience. Looking forward to part 2! Many of your experiences are very similar to ours. We adopted our son via domestic infant adoption just 2 years ago!

Sorry there's no picture -- we ate it all (the dinner, not the picture). Next time, I'll make sure to take one before we eat!

that's just the way it is. Just wait until she is older - the dogs may start to act like she is thier little. My son and the dog are unspeperable. I figure that every other sentence my son says has to do with the dog - and the dog is not even mine.

I am the father of a 15-year old boy. The same thought you express crossed us too, not once many times. Emotionally we wanted another child, perhaps many children actually! But when we thought of practical realities like, financial resources, amount of time we both have, etc, we decided to stick to one.

I don't think there are any golden rules in this. Do what's comfortable to both the parents, and keeping in mind whether we as parents would be able to fulfill the responsibilities to our children.

By the way, I am a single child, and my wife has a brother and sister.

Two was the perfect number for us, we wanted to keep the parent to kid ratio even. I really think that if you keep it at one, you'll always wonder 'what if ...' but if you double your load, you'll be eternally thrilled you did.

Thanks for the well-wishes, faemom! All of the parents I know who have two just LOVE it -- especially when they get older and can play together. Dave and I are just going to either take the plunge or not. This guessing game's got me all flustered. We just need to make a decision already! : )

It's that almost a year thumping in the uterus (metaphorically). That's usally when most parents start thinking about another. After having two, it's not much different from having one, just one outfit more a day to wash (ok, three when they're really young), just few less leftovers, more toys that they share. Nothing is more adorable then watching them play together. But that's just to give you some perspective on it. So good luck!
